APS Rate Plan Savings with Solar

Arizona Public Services (APS) offers three different rate plans to customers. The plan you choose will affect your electricity rates and determine when peak hours and demand response charges occur. Recently, the plans and rates offered by APS have changed. The latest plans and rates available are outlined below.

There is not a specific APS solar rate, but you can couple the most affordable plans with solar technologies to strategically reduce your energy costs. SouthFace Solar & Electric is an expert at energy charge reduction and can help you choose the best APS plan for solar and solar battery systems, maximizing your Arizona solar savings and helping you get the most APS benefits.

APS Fixed Energy Charge Plan

The Fixed Energy Charge Plan combines Lite Choice, Premier Choice, and Premier Choice Large under one name.

With a Fixed Energy Charge Plan, your rate will stay the same no matter what time of day or week you use electricity. If you choose this plan, you will be assigned a usage tier based on your average energy use throughout the year. The tiers are as follows:

Tier  Average Monthly Energy Use (kWh)  Rate (¢/kWh)
Tier 1 600 kWh or less 12.925
Tier 2 601-999 14.052
Tier 3 1,000 15.418

APS Time-of-Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays

The Time of Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays plan was previously known as the Savers Choice plan. If you choose this plan, your energy rate will change depending on the time of use. Your highest rate will be during on-peak hours, between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays. Rates for this plan change depending on the season.

APS Time-of-Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays with Demand Charge

This plan used to be called Saver Choice Max. As with the Time of Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays plan, your rate will change depending on the time of use, and your highest rate will be during on-peak hours, between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays. With this plan, however, you will also have a monthly demand charge for the highest hour of usage during on-peak hours. Learn more about demand rates in this video. Rates are as follows:

Which APS Rate Plan is Best for Solar Customers?

Unfortunately, there is no APS solar net metering program. However, you can still save money with an APS plan by being strategic about the plan you choose and the solar technologies you implement.

With a Time of Use plan, you can save money by only using grid-generated electricity during off-peak hours and switching to solar batteries during on-peak hours. This way, you’ll reduce peak demand charges while benefiting from the off-peak Time of Use plan rates, which are much lower than the Fixed Energy Charge Plan rates.

SouthFace Solar & Electric can help you navigate APS and solar in 2024, ensuring the lowest possible electricity costs.

We can also help you take advantage of solar incentives, like the solar tax credit and the APS Residential Battery Pilot to help you manage your solar installation costs and get the most out of your investment.
