Your SRP Bill Is About to Get More Expensive – Here’s What You Need to Know

Desert sunset power electricity pylons on beautiful Arizona eveningIf you’re an SRP customer, your electric bill is about to go up.

Starting in November 2025, SRP is raising rates to support a $169 million increase in base revenue. The utility says the changes will help fund grid improvements, upgrade aging infrastructure, and maintain reliability for customers. For Arizona households, however, it means higher electricity costs.

The average residential customer will see a 3.5% increase in their monthly bill thanks to a dual rate increase and service charge increase.

Here’s a closer look at what’s changing and how it will affect your bill.

Key Details of the 2025 SRP Price Increase

The SRP price increase will take effect with the November 2025 billing cycle. If you’re an SRP customer, you’ll see changes to your electric rate and your monthly service charge.

  • Rate Increase – Rates are going up across the board for SRP customers. The exact impact on your bill will depend on what plan you’re on and your usage. But the average residential customer using about 1,117 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will see a 3.5% increase in their monthly bill.
  • Monthly Service Charge Increase – For most single-family homes, the monthly service charge will increase by half, going from $20 to $30. Homes with larger electric service entrances will see an even bigger jump, with the service charge doubling to $40 a month.

Will Electric Rates Keep Going Up?

Rate increases like this one are becoming more and more common as utilities across the country look for ways to fund infrastructure upgrades and meet rising demand. According to the Energy Information Administration, the average residential electric rate in the US jumped 6.6% between June 2024 and June 2025.

Sadly, there’s not going to be relief any time soon.

Energy Innovation, a non-partisan energy and climate policy think tank, estimates that household energy costs will increase $170 annually by 2035 due to policies put in place by the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB), which was signed into law on July 4, 2025.

What Can You Do About Rising SRP Prices?

In Arizona, you can’t choose your utility company. That means, when rates go up, you aren’t free to shop around for a better option. If you want to keep the lights on, you’re stuck paying whatever they decide to charge you.

On top of that, there’s no cap on how much or how frequently a utility can raise rates. Your utility does not provide you with any protection or guarantees, and your bill could go up by any amount at any time.

So, what can you do?

The only real way out is to install solar panels so you can power your home yourself.

When you buy solar panels, you make a fixed, one-time payment. The solar panels then generate electricity for your home for 25-30+ years, reducing your electricity costs for decades.

As utility rates continue to climb, which they undoubtedly will, you won’t be affected, since you’ll be covering most, if not all, of your power needs yourself with solar.

The benefits are huge:

  • Lock-in lower electricity costs for 25-30+ years
  • Protect yourself against inflation and electricity price hikes
  • Add value to your home (4.1% more, on average
  • Claim a $1,000 credit on your state income taxes
