Solar Energy is a Smart Investment

Solar energy can help businesses reduce their operating costs and improve their public image. Many of the world’s most successful businesses, including Whole Foods, Intel, Microsoft, Walmart, and Ikea, are taking advantage of the benefits of commercial solar panels and using them to reduce their bottom line.

But solar energy isn’t just for major corporations. Small and mid-size businesses also have a lot to gain by installing a commercial solar system. SouthFace Solar & Electric is a highly experienced commercial solar company in Arizona that helps businesses of all sizes go solar. We’ll make sure you don’t miss out on the benefits of a commercial solar system.

Benefits of Solar Panels for Commercial Buildings

Investing in solar energy is a smart business decision that will help your company thrive. Here are some of the top reasons why Arizona businesses are installing commercial solar panels:

Cut Your Energy Costs

Electricity is a major expense for almost every business. With solar panels, you’ll be able to generate electricity for free – reducing or even eliminating your electricity bills and saving your business a serious amount of cash.

Reduce Your Carbon Emissions

Cutting carbon emissions is an important goal for many businesses, and going solar will help you do so. Lower carbon emissions are not only great for the planet, they’re also good for business. Many consumers want to support businesses that take an environmentally-friendly stance, and today’s top talent is seeking out environmentally conscious employers.

Keep the Power on During an Outage

When the power goes out for more than a minute or two, a lot of businesses take a hit. Installing a solar plus battery storage system will give you the power to keep things running during an outage so you can avoid downtime and prevent energy waste and profit loss.

Save Money with Arizona Commercial Solar Incentives

Solar panels have an excellent return on investment (ROI), but the initial costs often stop businesses from installing solar energy systems. Thankfully, there’s plenty of help available. Commercial solar incentives help businesses cover the up-front costs of going solar. Here are some of the best solar rebates and incentives available to Arizona businesses:

The residential federal solar tax credit expired December 31, 2025 and is no longer available for homeowners. However, commercial federal incentives remain fully active. Under Section 48/48E of the federal tax code, qualifying commercial solar projects can be eligible for an Investment Tax Credit of up to 30% — with additional bonus credits available depending on project size, location, and domestic content. To qualify, your business must have tax liabilities upon filing. For commercial customers considering a lease or power purchase agreement through LightReach (TPO), the commercial ITC remains available for projects with construction beginning by July 4, 2026. SouthFace works directly with your financial and tax team to structure projects that put you in the best position to capture available incentives.

Every commercial solar system qualifies for the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS). This system corresponds to the depreciation of the solar asset and allows a business to recover their investments, for tax purposes, over a specified length of time through a series of annual deductions (typically a five-year period).

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) was established by the USDA to assist agricultural producers with renewable energy investments. REAP grants are available in select rural towns across the country with a population below a certain threshold and cover 25% of a solar investment up to $500,000 for qualifying businesses.

A few local utility companies also offer incentive programs that can be added to the options above for even more savings. Our commercial solar team can help you determine what’s available in your area and how much your business can save.

The federal incentive picture for commercial solar is as strong as it’s ever been. The Investment Tax Credit covers up to 30% of system cost. On top of that, 100% bonus depreciation is now permanent — locked in by law, no phase-downs, no annual uncertainty. And 5-year MACRS lets businesses accelerate depreciation on the remaining depreciable basis. Put those three together and, for many commercial installations, federal tax benefits alone can recover the majority of what you spent — often in year one.

There are deadlines attached to some of these, and planning ahead matters. If commercial solar has been on your radar, the time to get a real project assessment isn’t later. Call SouthFace — we’ll run the actual numbers for your facility and show you what payback looks like without the guesswork.
